Hyatts Hawaii Resorts Near Completion of $73M in Property Renovations

Honolulu, Hawaii (PRWEB) September 22, 2011

Hyatt has long been welcoming guests to Hawaii with authentic aloha spirit, originating with Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa, one of the first resorts to open its doors on the islands 35 years ago. Since that time, Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa and Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa have also opened world-class resorts, establishing a prominent regional presence that the properties are renewing through extensive renovations and upgrades at all three resorts.

Hyatt was one of the first major hotel brands to put down roots in Hawaii, and the upgrades at all three properties on Oahu, Maui and Kauai underscore the region as one of our premier resort destinations, said Carlos Cabrera, Hyatts senior vice president of field operations.

Highlights from the renovations at each of the resorts include:

Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa

Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa is nearing the completion of an in-depth $ 13 million renovation that when finished in fall 2011 will reintroduce guests to the classic Hawaiian hospitality of a bygone era. The refreshed resort will embody the graciousness and authenticity of Hawaii at the turn of the 20th century, while creating a modern and dynamic entertainment center with the addition of two new restaurants, Shor American Seafood Grill and Japengo; SWIM, a new poolside lounge and bar; an upgraded pool deck; and the new oceanfront Regency Club Lounge.

Fresh on the heels of the renovation, the property has also announced extensive new programming to offer guests authentic Hawaiian cultural, arts and entertainment experiences that represent both the old and new Hawaii. As a gateway between the east and the west, the resort pays homage to its proximity to Asia with Asian art, culture and cuisine, anchored by the new Japengo restaurant, due to open in October. The west-facing Diamond Head Tower beckons groups for cultural events steeped in Hoonanea, the welcoming, relaxing, peaceful aloha spirit harkening back to early 20th century Hawaii. The Hoonanea gathering space is the resorts unique area for private events, accommodating up to 100 people and anchored by a new exhibition-style kitchen that infuses events with an engaging, interactive culinary component.

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa

When Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa opened in 1980, it set the bar for high-end resort destinations and invited guests to an oceanfront experience embodying the essence of Maui. The propertys trendsetting indoor-outdoor atrium-style design, extensive gardens, water playgrounds and distinctive art collection created a resort-as-destination model that has since been emulated around the world. More than 30 years later, the property has emerged from a $ 15 million transformation, reinforcing its reputation for offering luxury accommodations and service in a setting of rare natural beauty. The 806 newly-renovated guestrooms reflect modern Hawaiian luxury, with a sleek yet comfortable style expressed through plantation-style platform beds, white linens, boldly-colored textiles, custom lighting and notable artwork.

The revitalized culinary experience offered at Hyatt Regency Mauis recently-opened signature restaurant, Japengo, has elevated the property as an even hotter island destination. The restaurants hip, sultry vibe and innovative Pacific Rim cuisine are accentuated by an open-air garden lounge, Moon Bar, and Sushi Lounge, where guests can watch resident sushi chefs hand-roll sushi and nigiri to order. Japengos Executive Chef Matt Smith emphasizes fresh locally-sourced produce for an exciting menu that balances authentic Asian culinary techniques with contemporary Hawaii flavors.

Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa

Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa recently celebrated its 20th anniversary with the unveiling of a $ 45 million guestroom renovation to all of its 602 rooms, which now boast island-inspired d

“Diamond Confidential” Wins Short Film Silver Lei Award in Hawaii at the 2010 Honolulu Film Festival

Honolulu, HI (PRWEB) April 24, 2010

“Diamond Confidential” wins the Silver Lei Award at the 2010 Honolulu Film Festival in Hawaii. Produced by Ghost Light Pictures and Bayberry Entertainment. Produced and directed by Graeme Finlayson, starring and written by Gary Klavans. The film brings back the remembrance of the film-noir style with visionary luminosity and a classic 21th Century touch. The film was chosen to open and was premiered at the Los Angeles Short Film Festival in 2009 along with such stars as Scarlett Johansson and Courtney Cox. Now the film being showcased at the 2010 Honolulu Film Festival, wins the festival’s 2nd highest achievement with a ‘The Silver Lei Award’ on April 24, 2010.

“Diamond Confidential” is the story of Mick Diamond, a down and out photographer who takes “dirty pictures, of dirty people, doing dirty things.” Mick, who can be bought for a buck or a bottle, is hired by femme fatale Jasmine Ozerova played by Maggie Vandenburghe to retrieve a suitcase. The contents are a mystery. The reward is high. The risk is death. Weasel played by Damon Standifer is a slick con man and possibly the only friend Mick has, overhears the conversation and decides to beat Mick to the reward. Diamond, who’s character lives within underbelly society and the law; thrives in this menagerie of crime and deceit.

Weasel’s actions buy him a bullet in the back. After retrieving the suitcase, Mick returns to his flat to discover Jasmine has been waiting for him. The following morning Mick learns he had been followed by a mysterious hit man, and the police, who produce a photograph with surprising evidence to Weasel’s killer. What’s in the suitcase and why are people dying to get it?

When producer/director Graeme Finlayson was given the script, he was more than willing to take on the challenge of marrying the film-noir style of the 1940s with the 21st century. Actors Gary Klavans, Danielle De Luca and Michael Dempsey lead the cast to create believable characters living truthfully through Finlayson’s vision. Graeme Finlayson and Gary Klavans are currently developing a feature length film and TV series based upon “Diamond Confidential”.

Hawaii Friends to Throw Inaugural Luau in DC

Honolulu, Hawaii (PRWEB) December 24, 2008

When friends and long-time supporters of Hawaii-born Barack Obama heading to Washington DC for the Presidential Inauguration in January learned scalpers had bought out the Hawaii Society Ball hours after the election and were hawking event tickets on eBay, they were annoyed. Undeterred by the short timeline, they set to work calling friends to organize their own party: the first Inaugural Luau (http://inauguralluau.eventbrite.com).

The luau will be held two blocks from the Inaugural site and Capitol Mall at Hotel Monaco, and will feature Hawaiian food prepared by chef Les Tomita of Da Kitchen on Maui and the Hoku Award-Winning music of Maunalua. The event starts at 6 pm on Inauguration Day, January 20, 2009, and runs till midnight. The planning committee is a group of friends who know each other through Hawaii’s film industry and Japanese American World War II Veteran organizations.

It started right after the election; friends Stacey Hayashi and Amanda Stevens booked their flights to DC and then attempted to get Hawaii Society Inaugural Ball tickets. Unfortunately, the event had sold out and none of Hayashi’s other friends headed to DC had gotten tickets either. They were in Hilo with the famed 100th Infantry Battalion veterans for a Veterans Day parade at the time. Hayashi then headed to Los Angeles for the American Film Market (AFM) and the Go For Broke National Education Center’s annual fundraising gala, “Evening of Aloha”. Hoku award-winning group Maunalua was performing that night.

“The stars started to align”, said Hayashi. “I’m good friends with Myles Nomura, Maunalua’s manager. As folks from Hawaii, it was inevitable that we all went out for late night karaoke afterwards!” Hayashi asked the band if they’d be interested in performing at an Inaugural Luau. Lead singer Bobby Moderow, Jr., was enthused and jumped on the opportunity to participate and be involved in such a special and once in a lifetime moment for Hawaii-born and raised President-Elect Obama.

“Maunalua is looking forward to bringing our contemporary/traditional style of Hawaiian music to the DC area inauguration party on January 20th. We are very excited to have the opportunity to perform at such a historical event. The continuity between our style of grass roots, ‘ohana first mentality and our President-elect’s mindset lend well to our celebration for him. Please help us celebrate and be a part of this very, very special evening of Hawaiian music, food and to share

in the welcoming of the first ‘son of Hawai’i’ President,” says Moderow.

Another friend, Les Tomita, chef and owner of Da Kitchen on Maui, was also thrilled to be a part of the celebration. “We’re real excited to be doing this,” he said. “It’s a historic event and I know if my dad was alive, he’d be proud.” Tomita also offered to donate all the food, and Hayashi was overwhelmed by his generosity. “I was so touched by his offer,” Hayashi said. “I was like… ‘wow… thank you. But it’s a lot of people; don’t do it.’” Tomita plans to cook many of his popular items from his always-crowded restaurants, including kalua pig, teriyaki salmon, and hopefully moi, a fish that was only eaten by Hawaiian royalty in ancient days. “I have a World War II veteran friend working on getting us some `opihi,” Hayashi said, “but we’re trying to figure out how to get it there.” `Opihi is an expensive delicacy in Hawaii; it runs $ 40/lb. on a good day. Tomita plans to wrap laulau at Da Kitchen on Maui, flash freeze it, and fly it up to DC in air cargo. Plans for Hawaiian style shave ice are also in the works.

“It was easy to put together,” says Hayashi. “Everywhere I went, people just responded well. It’s going to be a great party. We’re hoping Konrad and Maya (Ng and Soetoro-Ng, Obama’s brother in law and sister), who are friends of many of the organizers of this event — and obviously President Obama and Michelle — will have time to stop by, but we know it’s going to be a crazy night for them. Regardless, we’ll all have lots of fun and have really awesome food and music.”

For additional information on the Inaugural Luau, contact Stacey Hayashi at info@inauguralluau.com or visit http://inauguralluau.eventbrite.com. 100 premium tickets and 200

regular tickets are available, first come first served. No scalping; make sure to enter names for tickets you are purchasing as they will be matched with identification at the door. Credit cards/paypal only; please do not mail checks as they will be returned.
